Chinook Observer – Just in time for the first big autumn storms, the new Washington coast Doppler radar station is revealing exactly whatâs coming at us from over the western horizon. Itâs amazing.
Constructed on Langley Hill in Grays Harbor County after years of hard effort by a broad coalition that included Port of Ilwaco Manager Jim Neva, this new radar scans an enormous area of the Pacific Ocean. Every few minutes, it produces new images that show the location, speed and intensity of everything from tiny rainsqualls to potentially deadly North Pacific storm fronts.
Now, before walking the dogs or leaving harbor, anyone with Internet access can look online and see what weather is approaching from hundreds of miles off. Everyone will soon benefit from dramatically better weather forecasts.
