Tri-City Herald - Washington residents who are filing itemized tax returns should remember to deduct state and local sales tax, according to Sen. Maria Cantwell.
The deduction provides tax fairness to residents of eight states without an income, including Washington, according to a news release.
While the deduction is available for 2011 taxes, it has not been extended to 2012, according to a news release.
“This deduction puts an average of $500 back in Washingtonians’ pockets,” Cantwell said. “I worked hard to ensure that this deduction was available to Washingtonians this tax season, and I will continue to fight to ensure Washingtonians get the tax fairness they deserve.”
